Please read this first. Houston Foreclosure Help is an educational website. We are not a law firm, not a HUD-approved housing counseling agency, and not a mortgage servicer. This page is not legal advice. Confirm the place of sale on your notice.
Updated September 2026. Educational only — not legal advice.
If your house is in Harris County, a posted mortgage foreclosure is usually called on the first Tuesday of the month between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The county no longer uses the downtown courthouse steps for most of these sales.
Where Harris County mortgage sales are called
Commissioners Court has designated the Bayou City Event Center, 9401 Knight Road, Houston, TX 77045. Many notices name the Magnolia South Ballroom (indoors) or a marked area under the pavilion. Some older notices still say “courthouse”; trust the address printed on the notice in your hand.
The designated place can change. If the notice and this page disagree, the notice wins.
Tax and constable sales are a different file
Harris County tax sales (unpaid property taxes) are also held the first Tuesday at the same event center, with constable precincts calling lists. Catching up the mortgage does not automatically stop a tax sale. Paying the tax office does not automatically stop the bank. See tax sale vs. mortgage foreclosure.
The calendar
Texas Property Code §51.002: trustee sales are the first Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If that Tuesday is January 1 or July 4, the sale moves to the first Wednesday of the month.
The notice of sale must be posted, filed with the Harris County Clerk, and mailed at least 21 days before the sale. How you got from missed payments to that paper is on how many payments you can miss.
Where notices are posted
Look at the Harris County Clerk’s foreclosure filings and at the physical posting location named in Texas law. The clerk does not run the auction and cannot give legal advice. For the process itself, read notice of trustee sale.
What to do today
- Write down the sale date, time window, and street address from the notice.
- Call the substitute trustee and the servicer’s loss-mitigation line the same day.
- Call a free HUD counselor. Numbers: Who to call (Avenue CDC, Tejano Center, Fifth Ward CRC, HOPE 1-888-995-HOPE).
- If you were served with a lawsuit, call legal aid. Do not skip a court date.
This site does not take cases and does not buy houses.
Frequently asked questions
Is every Harris County foreclosure at Bayou City Event Center?
Most current mortgage and tax notices use that building. Confirm your notice. Commissioners Court can designate a new place.
Can I go to the sale to “work it out”?
The sale is an auction. Talking to a bidder is not a workout with your servicer. Workouts happen with loss mitigation, a HUD counselor, or an attorney before the sale is cried.
My mailing city is Houston but the house is in Fort Bend. Which page?
Use the county on the notice. Katy, Cypress, and similar cities cross county lines. Fort Bend sales are not called at Knight Road.
Other counties: Fort Bend · Montgomery · Brazoria · Galveston · Waller
