County sale locations: the notice wins

Mortgage trustee sales in Texas are called in the county where the house sits, usually the first Tuesday of the month, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If that Tuesday is January 1 or July 4, the sale moves to Wednesday. Next sale day from this writing: Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

What to copy off the notice

  1. Sale date and time window.
  2. County and the street address of the place of sale — not the mailing city.
  3. Trustee or substitute trustee name and phone if printed.
  4. Whether it is a mortgage trustee sale, a tax sale, or an HOA sale. Those can run on the same Tuesday in different rooms, or online.

Usual designated places (confirm yours)

Full addresses and a map: Counties. Short notes we keep seeing:

  • Harris — Bayou City Event Center, 9401 Knight Road, Houston.
  • Fort Bend — Gus George Academy, Patton Hall, Richmond (designated as of Dec. 2, 2025).
  • Montgomery — Old 1936 Courthouse steps, 301 N. Main, Conroe. Tax sales may be online.
  • Walker is not Waller. Walker is Huntsville. Waller is Hempstead.
  • Austin County is not the City of Austin. Bellville, 1 E. Main.
  • Matagorda — courthouse, 1700 7th Street, Bay City; many tax sales are online. Do not invent a ballroom if the notice does not name one.

If the clerk changed the room

A county can move the call from the historic courthouse to an annex, an academy, or an event center. That does not change the 21-day notice rules. If the address on the notice does not match an old blog post — including this one — follow the notice.
